About John

John M. Montgomery II is an underwater photographer, videographer, and travel content creator based in New Jersey. His love of travel began during a family vacation to Europe as a high school student — an experience that later shaped his path into international business. While earning his MBA, John lived in France for a semester and spent time in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo studying the Brazilian economy.

Since 2008, John has traveled internationally multiple times a year, visiting over 50 countries — nearly half of them more than once — and building a reputation as a trustworthy resource on destinations, travel gear, and lodging. He's traveled to over 20 countries with his parents, and enjoys traveling solo and with friends as well.

In recent years, that love of travel has found its deepest expression underwater. John is a PADI Master Scuba Diver (certified January 2025) with over 100 dives across 15 countries, and his focus has increasingly shifted toward scuba diving, underwater photography, and videography. His goal: to dive in every country, with a particular focus on lesser-known dive destinations — especially across Africa and South America — that rarely get the spotlight in dive media.

Diving has also connected him to a community he's proud to be part of. John is a member of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS), where he serves on the membership committee, and dives with Aquatic Voyagers Scuba Club, a Black scuba club serving the NJ/NY area. He's also working to establish a scholarship to send one diver each year to the Black in Marine Science (BIMS) Immersion program.

John is also passionate about giving back more broadly. In 2019, he established the John M. Montgomery II NBMBAA Conference Annual Scholarship at the University of North Florida, where he earned his MBA with concentrations in international business and finance. The scholarship covers travel and conference expenses for one minority MBA student each year to attend the National Black MBA Association Conference. In recognition, John received UNF's Pay it Forward Award, honoring alumni who give significant time and talent to help students reach their professional goals.

John works in sales for a German-based chemical company and is an American Council on Germany Young Leader (2019), an Executive Leadership Council (ELC) Institute Fellow, a Life Member of the University of Florida Alumni Association (where he earned his bachelor's degree), and a proud member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
